Summary

Bodywork

From sight to sight
Electronic systems for dimensional checking of vehicles
Equipment for measuring bodywork has developed significantly in recent years, incorporating numerous technological advances. In this respect, electronic and IT evolution now permit the incorporation into the repair workshop of electronic systems for dimensional checking of bodywork.

Painting

More than just colour
Quality tests determine the properties of paint recoverings
Colour, shine, opacity or thickness are some of the aspects required of paint used in the automotion sector, both in manufacture and in repair. These properties, which form part of the quality of the product, can be measured, analysed and determined by means of a variety of pieces of equipment and instruments.

Vehicles

Daewoo Matiz
Bodywork, Mechanics and Safety
Born for the city, the practical and comfortable Daewoo Matiz is a small-scale MPV with a spacious interior and a long list of standard equipment which is often to be found on the list of optional extras, even for vehicles higher up the range. The Matiz is on sale in two versions, the S and the SE, and comes with a structured bodywork with different zones of programmed deformability, which progressively reduce force on impact.

Road safety

Crash test: Safety at the wheel
The term crash test covers a number of different tests for vehicle endorsement –passenger cars, motorcycles and industrial vehicles– which have been developed both by the manufacturer and by a range of institutions and centres researching into the automobile.
In the first case, the object of these tests lies in studying vehicle behaviour and the safety provided to its occupants, while for the centres for repair research, it is based on analysing damageability and repairability.

Report

The university of the automobile
The first mechanical engineering course focusing on the automobile.
The Catholic University of Avila has included a mechanical engineering course specialising in mechanics – automotion – in the courses it has on offer. Together with the evident scientific vocation of students opting for this course, there is a clear interest in the world of the automobile. The UCAV has asked Cesvimap for its collaboration in the development of specific subjects corresponding to this speciality.

A made-to-measure repair workshop
Repair workshop design and planning as a factor in competitiveness
The analysis of an important sample of workshops shows that a large percentage never carry out any long-term economic or strategic planning looking further than one year ahead. This lack of planning shows even more in the productive process, with an absence of optimization studies for layout or repair organisation, which are both vital elements in reducing production costs to a minimum.
