The chromatic phenomena of nature to be found in shells, feathers and pearls, have always caught the eye. In Japanese painting, pearl finish pigments are widely used, traditionally made from ground mother of pearl. Modern technology allows the reproduction of these phenomena with the aid of pearl finish pigments, whose base is natural iron mica covered with a layer of metallic oxide. The mica produces interference, colour optical reflections, which vary according to optic angle, while the solid pigments form a base of colour with very fine particles.
